Yale School of Architecture Celebrates 2026 Jim Vlock Building Project

Each year since 1967, the Yale School of Architecure hosts the Jim Vlock Building Project, giving Master of Architecture I students the opportunity to design and construct a transformative project in New Haven.

This year, in partnership with Friends Center For Children, the 2026 Building Project will provide dual-family housing for early childhood educators in the Fair Haven Heights neighborhood of New Haven.

The 2026 selected design, “The Nest”, by M.Arch I Students Samee Guddanti, Yeunji Nam, Gabrielle Newman, Juan Ledezma, and Fernando Cervantes Rojas was selected by a jury of  Friends Center For Children Educators and YSoA Faculty on February 26th, 2026. Construction will begin in May with M.Arch I students facilitating the building process.

The legacy of the Jim Vlock Building Project has an ongoing impact of New Haven’s urban future, one that is community oriented, site sensitive, and in close collaboraion with Yale University.
